March 30th update:
Dear SFPIRG members, and all members of the SFU community,
In light of ongoing developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SFPIRG lounge and office remain closed in order to support students’ social distancing. We anticipate this closure will remain in place until public health authorities recommend otherwise; however, we will continue to reassess the situation, and will provide updates when we have them.
Our staff continue to be intermittently available by email during this time, and are exploring ways to continue serving students during the pandemic. We will also be working with our Board in preparation for the new semester, in supporting new incoming Board members whose term starts May 1st, and in determining next steps for SFPIRG. Regretfully, the Letters For The Inside program is suspended until further notice, while we assess whether the program infrastructure can be adapted during these times.
We encourage everyone to stay informed about ongoing developments, including recommendations and guidance from public health authorities. We also encourage everyone to consider how we can actively support each other through these difficult times, especially those who are most vulnerable and most likely to be negatively impacted during a public health crisis like this.
Kindness, compassion, and patience will go a long way right now – for each other, and for ourselves.
In solidarity,
The SFPIRG Team
Original message:
Dear SFPIRG members, and all members of the SFU community,
In light of current developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SFPIRG lounge and office are now closed in order to support students’ social distancing. At this time, we hope to re-open on March 31st; however, we will continue to reassess the situation, and will provide updates when we have them. Our staff will be intermittently available by email during this time.
We support SFU’s decision to move away from in-person instruction, and echo the SFSS Executive Committee’s call on SFU Administration to take “the appropriate measures required to maintain the health and safety of all students, staff, visitors and the campus community at large.”
