SUMMARY:Release\, Reset Restore Series
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a community to heal and grow with? Are you dealing with racism\, sexism\, or other oppressive/problematic content in the course of your work\, organising\, or studies? Are you looking for a confidential and supportive space? Are you looking for community with folks who also care about social justice? Come and help us build a sanctuary space for you and your fellow students! \nRegister Here\nJoin SFPIRG for our 2023 Care-based Office Hours series for SFU undergrad and grad students! Release\, Reset\, and Restore will take place on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3pm\, starting on January 12. The last session will be on April 30. We will not host a session during reading week. Sessions will alternate between in-person and on-line sessions to meet the needs of our community members. \nEach week will focus on a different aspect of healing and wellness\, though there is flexibility to respond to the needs of the session members. Activities include mindfulness activities\, sharing circles\, artistic practice\, collective journaling\, or sharing resources for those who need further support and guidance. \nPlease note that these are group support sessions\, and so conversations may take place of a sensitive or challenging nature. In order to support a safer environment for all\, we ask participants to be respectful\, considerate\, and compassionate throughout all sessions. Participants who are harassing\, discriminating against\, or deliberately harming others will be removed from the room. We hope you find community\, healing\, and ideas for ways forward. Please fill out your information in this form and we will email you the Google Calendar invitation\, with a Zoom link included for the sessions happening online\, at least 1 hour prior to the next event. This link will work for all Office Hours sessions. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a workshop to unpack key languages that we use in our writing\, research\, and dialogues of academia starting off with a really foundational one: Intersectionality! We are thrilled to co-host this workshop with Julia Lane from the Student Learning Commons. The event will take place on Tuesday January 31 from 11:30-1 in WAC Bennet Library room 7301. \nRegister here!\nThrough a combination of open discussion and engagement with relevant research and writing scenarios\, we will consider how the concept of intersectionality can be useful and meaningful in our work as student scholars.\n\nLearning Objectives:  \n  \n\nDevelop a critical understanding of the concept of intersectionality\nEngage in open\, collaborative discussion with peers about intersectional research and writing\nDevelop your own sense of how intersectionality can be a meaningful and useful part of scholarly work\n\n\nAccessibility at this time:\n\n\nthis will be an in person event and will not be recorded\nwe unfortunately do not have the funding for ASL at this time\nthis event will be happening in the WAC Bennett Library at SFU Burnaby campus. we will be wearing masks in this space for the well-being of the community during this time of increased COVID transmission. we will have masks available.\nthe location of the workshop is accessible via elevator.\nthe chairs in the room are “office type” chairs with a mesh back and padded seat.\nthere are gender-neutral washrooms down the hall from the room we are using.\nwe are committed to making this an accessible and safer space for a constellation of sexualities and gender in the films we show\, in the questions we ask\, and how we facilitate discussion.\n\n\n\nThank you wanting to join us for this important discussion!
