This is both a general research project involving information gathering (web-based, phone interviews); data compilation and reporting, and an alliance-building project.
How do you plan to use the results of this project?
The results of the project will be used to:
• identify services useful to MURB owners, residents and/or managers;
• refine and/or develop services appropriate to Society Sustaining
Ourselves Sustainability (SSOS) aims and audiences;
• inform development of SSOS information/educational materials; and
• develop synergies and alliances with other organizations
What larger goal is served by undertaking this project?
Our primary aim is to help maintain and extend the life of existing MURB stocks by increasing their sustainability (e.g., more energy and water efficient) and, thereby, help retain more affordable housing.

Our primary audience(s) for the program are owners, renters, and managers of MURBs We are intending to undertake pilot studies within particular communities in the near future; as a result of expressed interest, the City of North Vancouver will be a likely first partner.

To provide informational, educational, and professional guidance and services to further the development of sustainability-consistent policy and practice.

How much time per week will the
liaison be available to the project?
Approx 1-2h/week. This will vary according to project/student needs with more availability for start-up and wrap up.
How will the liaison provide direction and support to the project?
An initial list of ~20 organizations (not-for-profit NGOs primarily) will be provided for initial exploration; guidance will be provided for researching additional organizations. The research plan and interview protocols will be provided to the student; participation in development according to student interest. The Liaison will have ongoing (at least weekly) contact with the student via email and phone for the purpose of project tracking and providing additional guidance/direction as may be required; and will arrange for report presentation to SSOS the Board/Working Group.
