Best Practices for Child Protection Advocates - 2 Phases
What is the central research question you want answered?
What are the objectives of your project?
What considerations should PSS take into account as it formulates and introduces best practices for child protection advocates?

This project is a component of a larger, 3-year project aimed at increasing sector-wide awareness of and capacity to respond to the advocacy needs of parents involved with child protection services (i.e. parents whose children have been removed by child protection services, or who are at-risk of having children removed).

Key objectives:

1) Research past and current initiatives aimed at introducing best practices to field where they formerly did not exist.
2) Drawing from your research, discuss (in paper, or more suitable format) how PSS should introduce best practices for child protection advocates.

2 Phases:
Phase 1: Literature Review - Research past and current initiatives involving the introduction of best practices for child protection advocates to fields where they formerly did not exist, particularly in social services and child and family-related fields. Write a report of your research.

Phase 2: Written Analysis - Identify factors contributing to the successful introduction of best practices for child protection advocates. Formulate a short list of recommendations for the introduction of child protection advocacy best practices based on the research findings and in conjunction with PSS project staff.
How do you plan to use the results of this project?
Results will assist PSS project staff in the creation and launch of a best practices model for child protection advocates.
What larger goal is served by undertaking this project?
The overall goals of Child Protection Advocacy Research Project, of which this project is component, include:
1) Raising policy/decision-maker awareness around the advocacy needs of parents (and others in a parenting role) who are involved with the child protection system.
2) Helping parents who are involved with the child protection system achieve greater access to quality advocacy and support.
3) Identifying best practices related to child protection advocacy and developing a widely-agreed to set of best practices.

The Liaison will provide an orientation to PSS and the Child Protection Advocacy Research Project. Together, the liaison and student will discuss the objectives of student research and establish time-lines and deliverables. The liaison will be available to answer questions, and offer support and feedback.
